Who We Are

Pre MOT Check is operated by Zanzero Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.

Company: Zanzero Ltd

Registered Address: The Nurseries, Burnt House Lane, Bransgore, Christchurch, BH23 8AL

Contact: [email protected]

For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), Zanzero Ltd is the data controller for the personal data processed through this website.

What Data We Process

When you use Pre MOT Check, we process the following information:

  • Vehicle Registration Mark (VRM): The registration number you enter to look up MOT history. This is sent to the DVSA API to retrieve your vehicle's MOT data. We do not store VRMs in our database.
  • Server Logs: Like most websites, our hosting provider (DigitalOcean) automatically collects technical data including IP addresses, browser type, and access times. These logs are retained for security and diagnostic purposes.
  • Aggregated Vehicle Data: We store anonymised, aggregated MOT failure statistics by vehicle make, model, and year. This data cannot identify individual vehicles or owners.

How We Use Your Data

We process your data for the following purposes:

  • To provide MOT history lookups and failure risk analysis
  • To generate personalised pre-MOT checklists
  • To maintain the security and performance of our service
  • To improve our service based on aggregated usage patterns

Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data under the following legal bases:

  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR): For analytics cookies, where you have given consent via our cookie banner.
  • Legitimate Interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR): To provide the MOT check service you have requested, to maintain the security of our systems, and for anonymised, cookieless analytics signals that help us understand site usage without identifying individuals.
  • Legal Obligation (Article 6(1)(c) UK GDPR): Where we are required to retain certain records for legal or regulatory purposes.

Who We Share Data With

We share data with the following third parties:

  • DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency): We query their MOT history API with the VRM you provide to retrieve vehicle MOT data.
  • Google (Analytics): If you accept cookies, Google Analytics collects information about your visit. Even without consent, anonymised signals may be sent for aggregated statistics. Data is processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
  • DigitalOcean: Our hosting provider, which processes server logs and hosts our application infrastructure.
  • Amazon: If you click affiliate links, you will be directed to Amazon.co.uk. Amazon's own privacy policy applies to their site.

Data Retention

  • VRMs: Not stored. VRMs are used only transiently during API requests and are not written to our database.
  • Server Logs: Retained according to our hosting provider's standard retention policy (typically 30-90 days).
  • Aggregated Statistics: Retained indefinitely as they contain no personal data.

Cookies and Analytics

Pre MOT Check uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site, helping us improve the service. We implement Google's Consent Mode v2, which means:

  • Before you consent: No cookies are stored on your device. Google may receive anonymised, cookieless signals (such as page views without personal identifiers) to provide aggregated insights.
  • If you accept cookies: Google Analytics cookies are enabled, allowing more detailed analysis of your visit (e.g., pages viewed, time on site, interactions).
  • If you decline cookies: No analytics cookies are set. Only cookieless, anonymised signals may be used for aggregated statistics.

We also use local storage to remember your cookie preference so we don't ask you again on return visits.

Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking "Cookie Settings" in the footer of any page. You can also clear your browser's local storage to reset your preference.
